Operations Manager

Interlune is a space resources company headquartered in Seattle, WA. We will provide resources from space to power a clean and sustainable economy on Earth and in space.

We are looking for a Doer who wants to join our early-stage team and accelerate humanity’s progress toward an off-world future. Our engineering team combines expert knowledge of geological sciences, mechanical engineering, automation, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and advanced fabrication to build the infrastructure that will create an in-space economy. To join our small team, you must be agile, willing to learn, and able to take on multiple roles as needed.

We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager who has excellent organizational skills and a personal disposition to keep Interlune thriving.  The ideal candidate will have a natural flexibility in handling day-to-day routines as well as surprises.  This role is responsible for defining, building and managing a portfolio of internal and external development projects, which will include our novel lunar simulant production in Texas.  This position is full time in our Houston, TX facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of projects, suppliers, and partnerships
  • Drive hardware development from concept development through the program lifecycle.
  • Manage in-house and external teams to drive execution through performance metric definition and progress tracking. Drive consistency in our approach to vertical integration and capital investments by conducting make vs buy studies and financial analyses to support decision-making.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, team development and other HR functions
  • Work closely with leadership, departments, and cross-functional teams to integrate and align Interlune objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards and regulations
  • Manage office operations by serving as the primary contact for IT, maintenance, deliveries, shipping, and new hire setups. Coordinate office-related communications and announcements to employees.
  • Develop baseline budgets and detailed plans/schedules to support integrated product development.
  • Support the company’s continuous improvement through developing a streamlined set of procedures, processes, forms, tools, and training related to design, analysis, and other areas.
  • Present findings and recommendations to management, and existing and potential customers.
  • Generate monthly reports on grant progress

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience working with or managing teams that are developing complex hardware to operate in an extreme environment.
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams through the full product lifecycle, working with both in-house and supplier teams.  
  • Practical hands-on experience building hardware and software.
  • Highly organized leader with a demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, strong business acumen, and bias for action.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • B.S./M.S. in  Engineering, Physical Science, or related technical subject area, as well as  Business and finance degrees paired with strong technical management
  • Highly knowledgeable of the space and infrastructure industrial base, and demonstrated ability in supplier management
  • Basic familiarity with the space environment and the challenges with operating in extreme environments.
  • Experience working on an in-space mission, preferably on a planetary mission with surface operations.
  • Working knowledge of lunar science, geology, and/or mining engineering.
  • Familiarity and network within the Clear Lake business and technology community.

Compensation range:

Compensation for this position ranges from $120,000 - $170,000.  

Your actual level and base salary will be decided based on your specific experience and skill level.
