Interlune is a space resources company based in Seattle, WA. We will provide resources from space to power a clean and sustainable economy on Earth and in space.

We are looking for a Doer who wants to join our early-stage team and accelerate humanity’s progress toward an off-world future. Our engineering team combines expert knowledge of geological sciences, mechanical engineering, robotics, automation, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and advanced fabrication to build the infrastructure that will create an in-space economy. To join our small team, you must be agile, willing to learn, and able to take on multiple roles as needed.

This role will lead a significant hardware development project. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow into the role of a Principal Investigator or Mission Manager, leading space missions that validate our models of space resources or demonstrate our harvesting technologies in space.

Applicants from all industries are welcome, with particular emphasis in complex, multi-disciplinary system development. Familiarity with and prior experience in the space, agriculture, construction, or mining industry are valuable but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the technical baseline of a major element through design reviews.
  • Develop and manage the system functional, physical, system, subsystem, and component requirements, flow down, and verification planning. Identify and conduct key trade studies and analyses.
  • Develop detailed plans/schedules in support of technical assignments.
  • Analyze and track key performance metrics throughout the product lifecycle and continually assess new designs to optimize for manufacturability, quality, and cost.
  • Bring a systems thinking approach to “share the pain” among multidisciplinary teams to optimize the whole rather than the part.
  • Provide support and oversight during verification activities, including evaluation and reporting of major test results.
  • Interface with and support licensing and regulatory activities.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and implementation of a simple and streamlined set of company procedures, processes, forms, tools, and training related to systems engineering, design control, configuration management, and other areas.
  • Present findings and recommendations to management, and to existing and potential customers.
  • Participate in the hiring process, including identifying, interviewing, and on-boarding new employees.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or related technical subject area.
  • 10+ years of experience in integrated systems development with at least 3 years of experience being responsible for a major subsystem.
  • Practical hands-on experience building hardware or software
  • Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices (concept development, requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operations), integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems.
  • Deep technical knowledge in one or more fields that can be applied to in-space robotic system development
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to operate effectively with minimal direction.
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
  • Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness and success from previous assignments and working with interdisciplinary and multi-functional teams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • M.S. in Space Resources, Spacecraft Systems Engineering, or related technical subject area.
  • Experience in systems engineering for an in-space mission, preferably on a planetary mission with surface operations.
  • Working knowledge of geology and/or planetary sciences.
  • Working knowledge of Mining Engineering.
